Something from the history of Mountfield HK

Mountfield HK, a.s. is a hockey club located in Hradec Králové since 2013. The hockey club aspires with a very rich history, dating back to 1926. Shareholders are Mountfield a.s. and the Statutory City of Hradec Králové.

The beginning of ice hockey in Hradec Králové started in the mid-20s of the 20th century, precisely in 1925 when Skating club of Hradec Králové was put together. Only one year later, the Skating club of Hradec Králové was added to Czech Ice Hockey Association. Another major milestone for Mountfield HK, a.s. was the construction of artificial ice, which was officialy opened on January 12, 1957.

The hockey club went through a lot of ups and downs since its beginning. One of the golden moments was definitely the advance to Czech extraliga, the top hockey league in the Czech Republic, during the season 1993/94. The following year came one of the downs when the team fell down to the first and eventually also the second league. Nevertheless, the team came back up to the first league in 2001.

Another huge milestone happened before the start of the 2013/14 season when Hradec Králové – now as the Mounfield HK – advanced to Czech extraliga again after a 20 years gap. Since then, the team participated in every season quarterfinals. In 2016/17 season, Mountfiled HK fought in semifinals and won the bronze medal.

During the same season, Mountfiled HK also participated in the famous Swiss tournament Spengler Cup, where the team lost in quarterfinals. After a tremendous success in the club history, the Mountfield HK was invited to the same tournament once again the following year.
